Laser beam shaping

Solutions for growing technological requirements

Laser beam shaping - no other tool is as flexible as laser light. Thanks to special beam shaping, users, e.g. in medical technology, have access to an enormous variety of laser applications. With new technical possibilities, however, the demands on the laser beam profile are also growing.

Economical and reproducible

In many cases, a rectangular or top-hat profile can achieve significantly better results in spatial intensity distribution than the widely used Gaussian profile. Beam splitters that enable parallel processing with only one laser can help to maximise economic efficiency. In cooperation with the company TOPAG Lasertechnik GmbH, we are developing refractive beam shaping elements made of glass, which, in contrast to plastic elements, can withstand the high intensities that occur during material processing. We also offer optimal glass materials in the field of near ultraviolet radiation.

Powell lenses from GD Optics

Powell lenses are used to create a linear beam profile from a Gaussian intensity distribution. A homogeneous intensity distribution is created along the line, while the Gaussian distribution of the laser is maintained perpendicular to it. Line optics can be produced with an aperture angle of a few degrees to over 90°. In contrast to the manufacturing processes available on the market up to now, in which the Powell lenses all have to be ground and polished individually, we are able to produce them faster more economically and with significantly higher reproducibility. Thanks to our moulding process, we only have to grind and polish the mould once to produce any number of Powell lenses.

Gauss-to-tophat lenses in innovative and cost-efficient production

gdoptics-mikrolinsen-laserstrahlformung-beam-shaping-linsen

Beam-shaping lenses are used to distribute the energy of the Gaussian beam over the top-hat profile. Beam shapers such as the Gaussian-to-tophat optics are used to create particularly sharp edges during material removal, e.g. in solar cell production. In contrast to the glass solutions available on the market so far, which are produced lithographically, we can offer Gauss-to-tophat optics at a much lower cost.

High economic efficiency

GD Optics has developed a solution with its precise moulding process that allows beam shaping elements to be manufactured in higher quantities much more economically. Learn more about our diffractive optics now.
